Lumbar Range of Motion – Physical Examination

The doctor is standing behind the patient and walks towards her. He lifts his hand to her lower back. The doctor raises one hand to her lower back and uses his other hand to encourage to push her upper body slightly over. The patient rests her hand on the top of her legs and slowly bends forward. The patient then stands straight. The doctor then raises one hand to the top of the patient’s neck. The patient rests each hand on her hip and stretches her head and body to arch backwards. The patient straightens her back and turns her body to one side. She rests her hand on each of her hips with her arms bent at the elbow. The doctor moves his hand to below her back and encourage her to move her body from side to side. The patient then crosses her arms on her chest, and she turns her body side to side to twist her spine. The patient uncrosses her arms and stands in a relaxed posture.
